Data Import Wizard?

I need to import ~100 objects from an xls file. Fine... I can do that, but all it seems to do is plot the pushpins on the map. I use Mappoint 2004 to do multi-point trip optimization and what I want to see is a pulldown list of all imported objects to select from in Route Planner. Right now, I have to manually add each object to route planner via pushpin. They stay once added, but is there a way to add all?

Hi there,

First thing that came into my mind was, that you just select all pushpins (rectangle around alle pushpins ), then make a right click and then click left on "add pushpins as waypoints" or something like that.

I'll check on the other thing, but I guess, to add adresses directly as waypoint is not that simple, unless you use a script to do so.

Greetings,
Syd

Syd...Yes... I have been using the rectangle to try and select waypoints, but this is inprecise and doesn't work if you are all over the map. I need to be able to select 5 or 6 objects out of the ~100 as waypoints and optimize for a daily route.

Do you want to select all of them or "just five or six scattered around"?

If the former, then use a selection rectangle.
If the latter, then select them manually - there are only 5 or 6.

How do you propose to distinguish between them if the selection process is further automated?

5 or 6 scattered around. They are locations spanning a ~100 mile radius of a home base. So I have imported these 100 or so objects and currently have to select from the pushpins on the map in order to plot my route. I zoom the map view to include all of my objects/territory. Then I have to hunt and peck through the pushpins till I find the names that I am looking for for that day. I think I want a dropdown list of all imported objects, perhaps listed alphabetically, to select my waypoints from the imported objects available.

An add-in could be written to let you select a pushpin from a large listbox.

Personally, I'm not sure if it would be that much quicker - I guess it depends how meaningful the names are vs. the distribution of the pushpins
(I know it can be difficult to select pushpins that are very close together)

I could be hired to write it for you, but I don't know if your budget can cover a programmer?
