GPS receiver for realtime mapping in MapPoint 2004

Is there a list of GPS receivers that will do realtime mapping with MapPoint 2004 and a laptop? I'm specifically interested in a Garmin receiver, but their website doesn't have any info on MapPoint.

Thanks,

See if it says it's NMEA compatible, that should be an indication that it works with MapPoint..

GPS

Gentlemen:

SHOULD is an interesting choice of words. I can asure you that it does NOT work with the DeLorme NMEA ( orIOU, LMNOP) . MS is of NO help. Has anyone ACTUALLY (not theoretically or vicariously) had this work with a GPS unit?

yes.

The problem with some GPS devices is that, by default they do not produce the correct NMEA sentences. The locational information can be contained in several different message types e.g. GGA, RMC.
After a quick experiment, it looks like MP does not recognise RMC type messages, so I quess it requires GGA type messages.

BTW, the MP addin "Advanced GPS" (AGPS) will respond to RMC messages.

HTH.
