Making Sq. kilometre territory's

I would like to devide the map in Sq. kilometres as I would like to plot my data more accurate then just be post code sector. Is there anyway to make a custom territory consisiting of 1Sq. km blocks?

My understanding is no, but if you just wanted a display then you could draw polygons for each square.

If it is acceptable for your squares to be defined in terms of longitude and latitude, then our Grid Imp application could probably be used:

You talk of "post code sectors": Are you in the UK? If so, are your required km squares GR 1km squares? Grid Imp doesn't support these at the moment, but it is a possible area of future extension.

Yes I am doing the analysis on England. I ahve tried the Grid Imp and it does work for England, but instead of squares I egt rectangular blocks. How soon do you think Grid Imp would support GB sq km?

Mappoing Territories By Grid References

Hello Nico,

I know it was a while back since you posted your MapPoint problem, but did you actually come back with a solution, I'm trying to do something similar and map UK grid references by territories, any chance you can help.

Since this thread was started, support for OS Grid Coordinates was added to GridImp. For details, see:

http://www.mapping-tools.com/gridimp/index.shtml

One of the examples (Snowdonia topography) uses OS-gridded data.
Use 4-digit grid references for 1km squares.

Note that GridImp only draws the data. So not true territories, but you can get some good maps.
