| MapPoint ActiveX vs Web service I am new to MapPoint development, so please forgive my ignorance on the subject. My task is to provide map capabilities for a web-based application. There will be a SQL-server and ASP.NET application feeding content to the thin clients across an intranet. Which of the two MapPoint tools should I consider for this project? What are the major benefits/drawbacks of either approach (response time, feature list, maintenace etc.)? Is there a limitation on how many instances of MapPoint ActiveX may be loaded at one time (multiple client sessions)? Thank you in advance for your suggestions. Best, Alex O. |

I strongly suggest the web service. First, for using the ActiveX component on an intranet, you must have one licence for each of your users, which can sum up a lot. Second, the web service offers better data updates, better support for developing in a web environment and is probably faster when the number of users increase. There is an option to pay "per user" for the web service, check that out. - Niklas |
