Newbie- Converting Mappoint 2004 data to Map Info data

Hi. I am new to this field so sorry if this question has already been asked or if it is stupid. I need to convert Mappoint 2004 to Map Info data. Is this possible. I have heard of a software Map-In-A-Box that supposedly lets you do this. Does anyone have any experience or advice. I would appreciate it.

There is a free script at: http://www.mp2kmag.com/importersub01.asp
It will work best if you have some programming skills to modify and recompile the code if errors crop up with your data. This will only take the drawing layer (i.e. shapes, lines, and points you have drawn) and convert them to a mif/mid. It will not extract the MapPoint built-in layers such as roads.

MIAB puts the built-in layers as a raster image into MapInfo automatically. You can imagine doing this yourself, just register the map image. MIAB makes it much easier.

Thanks for the information. Have you had any experience with MIAB? Is it easy enough for a newbie.

Do you have experience with MapInfo? That will be necessary.

It ships with some tutorials. If you are confident you can follow some tutorials and teach yourself then it's fine.

Actually it really depends on what you want to do or what you will be expected to do, some things might require training or custom programming. I think you can get MapInfo training just about anywhere from MapInfo partners, check with them.
