Pushpin software advice please

Hi all,

I would like to export pushpin positions from MP2004 with lat/lon in .csv or Excel-readable format.

Is there a recommended add-on to do this, and would someone like to sell me a copy please?

Thanks

Nick

Hi Nick,

If you use the mappoint control from out of a program this is easy to do. Do you ?

Here's what I'm trying to do, maybe you can point me in the right direction.

From a map of the UK, I will identify around 200 locations. Each will be marked with a named pushpin. I then want to export the position data with lat/lon to a .csv or ASCII file.

MapPoint appears to be able to do this, but I've seen companies selling an add-on that gives the pushpin export capability, for about $75.

Is there a simpler or cheaper way to do this?

Many thanks

Nick

To do it for less, you would have to code it yourself.
The core routine you need is Gilles Kohl's "CalcPos" routine which uses geometry to calculate longitude, latitude of Location and Pushpin objects.
If you've used VB6 before, you'll find it easy to use.
Search the articles section of this website to find it.

To hire someone to write a solution, would cost more than the $75 that John Meyer's Pushpin Tool costs.

PinsToFile

Nick
You can do a search for a little shareware piece of software called PinsToFile that will export any dataset you name to a text file on the desktop or root directory. It gives you the location name and the latitude and longitude. From there you import it into excel.

ALSO it’s FREE

The PinsToFile utility does exactly what I require and works well. I have been able to complete the pushpin task with ease.

Many thanks to all who responded - I couldn't have done it without your help.
