Route from GPS data

Hi all,

I'm trying to display a driven route from collected position - data within MP2002 (European Version) using VB6.
Adding the waypoints and calculating the route does already work, but the calculated route is 'wrong'.

Although the position - data I use for testing is highly accurate and all waypoints are exactly on a highway MP occasionally places waypoints on the wrong side of the road. The result is a route that doesn't go directly from town A to town B, but goes back and forth to reach the points on each side of the highway.
The strange thing is that if you add the waypoints in the same by hand everything is fine.

I've also extracted waypoint - position - data from a 'handmade' route in MP and used that positions to add the waypoints programmatically to a new route with the same effect as above -> the resulting route looks completely different than the original one.

Maybe someone can help me to get around this or at least confirm this 'bug' ?

Thanks in advance for all comments.

Cheerz,

NICO

PS: I've also already tried MP2004 for this but the problem persists.

Route from GPS data

I have also noticed some very weird behaviour when adding waypoints from position data.

When you refer to highways do you mean all dual carriageway roads or just motorways and autoroutes.

The problems I have found relate specifically to motorways and autoroutes when MapPoint arbitrarily decides which side of the motorway/autoroute to place the waypoint.

MapPoint then treats these waypoints as not being on the motorway and uses local roads to get to the next motorway junction.

I suppose this is correct since you can only join this type of road at a junction.

However if you calculate the route and then click on the waypoint and move it very slightly it then decides it is actually on the motorway and behaves correctly.

Does anyone have a solution for this.

RVH.
