Yet Another Problem!

Ok so far i was able to do almost everything i want. Now i discovered this little nasty bug and dont know how else to solve it.

Take these START + END location...
START (38.91990,-76.85215)
END (38.992637,-76.872028)

Now when you getdirection (ROUTE) notice that the start point goes the wrong way..... :(. I have noticed that one way i could get it to route it the right direction was to add the waypoints first then click and move it up or down... just a bit and then get direction. I have even tried adjusting the lat/long after calling GetLocation and no go.

Anyone seen this before ? and how i can fix it so i can get the app goin ?

thanks.

Yup, no answers

I don't have an answer to your problem, but I can try taking a look at it.

Are you programming the route (via VB or other), or just using the menus and stuff to put a route in?
(Note, I haven't played with routing at all in MapPoint, so this may take me a little while.)

Also, have you checked MSDN?

Rahn

Thanks for responding.
Please if you or anyone can try it on their end (PC) that will be wonderful. I know i am not crazy here.... Anyway i have coded this in VB + in PowerBuilder. I even tried this straight in MapPoint. I have looked in MSDN ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...asp?frame=true ) or maybe i am looking in the wrong place, i hope not.

Okay, I think I may have an answer for you. By saying "Going the wrong way", I assume you're looking at the route and saying it's going East instead of South from point one.

Using your location, it's taking you out on GreenBelt Rd instead of navigating through the side streets. For that matter, it could take you out on Greenbelt going the other direction to Cipriano.

It's using the quickest route instead of the shortest route.
To change it, go to tools/More Options. Click on segments, and choose "shortest".

There is some fancy math going on behind the scenes to figure this stuff out. For an exciting Friday night, Look up "Travelling Salesman Problem" in Google, and read away. (Okay, maybe not exciting...you can also look up some graph theory stuff, but it's a little out there.)

Hope that answers your question.

Thanks for replying again, what do you mean by saing "Going the wrong way" Lets review those points again. Zoom in on the starting point i posted above. Notice what it did. I am starting from a HighWay and it wants me to turn or make some weired turn right in the middle of the high way :)
The end point is fine it is just the starting point i can't figure out. BTW, i even tried it with the shortest path or prefered, i am getting the same behavior. Also how would he travelling sales man thing solve this problem ? cuz if u notice what i am trying to do which is if i leave or go off my track, i will replot the start and ending. This was when i discovered this problem.

Thank.

Ah. My bad response earlier. I was looking at point two instead of 1.

I think it's trying to get you to the closest road, so it goes "cross country" to do this.
Beat's me what's going on. Have you noticed it with any other points?
