MapPoint Geocoding Accuracy & Street Network Currency

 Embarassed to say that I am finding that my commercially geocoded point file (at address or intersection level of accuracy) is not matching either Mappoint's geocode or pushpin for the same address or even the visually correct location on the MapPoint map's street or intersection.

Originally I thought it was the difference between the WGS1984 Datum and the NAD83 Datum. I believe I was wrong about that.

This leaves me to question the composition, source, accuracy and currency of Mappoint's street files. I believe the sources are "Navtech and/or GDT" but I am not sure of the mix or blend or currency of the sources used in the MapPoint project.

Has anyone run into this problem when introducing outside GIS data into MapPoint?

Thank you.

You're correct that WGS 84 and NAD 83 are essentially the same.. however, you would probably want to translate the geocodes if they are in NAD 27

Navtech streets in general are used in major cities / metropolitan areas, GDT streets are used in small cities and rural areas.

MapPoint 2002 is starting to get a little dated compared to commercial geocoders, but is a very economical way to make a first pass and reduce the # of addresses you would need to feed to a commercial geocoder.

In my experience, cities and areas are very different - for some address lists MapPoint 2002 can still acheive 90%+ in other it's more like 50%. To make an evaluation of what's going on in your case you may want to set up a matrix and do a thorough examination on a sample of your address list.

Happy Holidays and Happy Mapping!
