First of many newbie questions ;)

Hi there

I've just started using MapPoint 2002. It appears that creating a map like this one - http://www.directionsmag.com/images/...lery/28_lg.gif - is impossible with the program. That is, one cannot simply select a region, state or country and have only it appear in the image you create. From my initial experimentation, I find that I can't create a map of the US without Canada at the top, nor one of Canada without the US at the bottom.

Is that correct or am I missing something? I suspect the latter is more likely. :?

Covering areas

You're not missing something.. if you really want to go to lengths to accomplish this with MapPoint, it can be an advanced topic. First you'd have to get boundaries of the area you want to _cover_ (not the area you want to map) in mif/mid format and then import them using the spatial data importer and send the line and fill to a solid cover and move the polygon above the roads. If you don't follow that, you can just draw over the are you want to cover with a freeform and move the resulting polygon above the roads.
