My application opens a form containing a map that does not include the legend and overview map by default. I have a custom toolbar with a legend icon that opens the legend and overview map pane, but when it is first opened, the overview map shows all of North America, not the overview area of the map. If the user pans or zooms, the overview map displays correctly.

Is there a way to force the overview map to generate a proper map when the pane is first opened?

how about once the map has opened, and the panes displayed, move your position slightly? or open the panes after the map?
