New at MP2K Magazine - 3/24/2003
The MapPoint
Business Unit made a strong showing at this year's CTIA Wireless / Microsoft
Mobility Developer 2003 conference - see the Directions Magazine special issue
covering the event, Bill Gates gave a keynote address. It was reported that MapPoint .NET will be renamed MapPoint Web Services.
One really cool thing to report - despite my active discouragement telling him it won't work (see forum)
- Richard Hayes plowed ahead and discovered that AutoRoute 2003 data can indeed be
used in MapPoint 2002 European edition simply by copying over some files.
Note that this may break some features of MapPoint and it is expected you
would have less luck trying to do this with the respective North American
versions of the software.
Frequent contributor John Washenberger wrote an
article on how to produce LARGE maps with MapPoint, with which users frequently
have difficulty. See below for links to both articles.
We are pleased that the new Press
Release area of the site announced in last issue has been a success.
It's a forum for you to inform us and share with our readers your MapPoint-related
news and announcements.

Articles
John Washenberger outlines
a method for generating large area detailed map images by saving the map
as a web page. "I’ve always wanted to explore the capabilities of MapPoint 2002 for
printing out large maps. I never got around to it until recently when I needed a
good map of the area where I live, Bainbridge Island, WA. As you see, Chilly Hilly
is fast approaching." Read the full article on MP2K Magazine.
