Clearing The "Find Address" Data in MapPoint

Ever wonder how to clear the "find address" data in MapPoint 2002? Many peoples routes are just needed once and yet MapPoint 2002 keeps all the addresses and they just keep stacking up more and more. MP2KMag to the rescue.

Ever wonder how to clear the "find address" data in MapPoint 2002? Many peoples routes are just needed once and yet MapPoint 2002 keeps all the addresses and they just keep stacking up more and more. You may have noticed that when you tried delete them by overwriting it or by right clicking but nothing works. Microsoft provides a utility on their support site for this problem with MapPoint 2001 (you can download it here from MP2KMag), but it does not work with 2002!

MP2KMag to the rescue. In MapPoint 2002 the place where the route info is stored is in the registry actually under "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MapPoint\9.0\FindMRU"

To clear it you can create a reg file like the one below to clear out all the saved route addresses. A reg file is just a text file to you can go File | New | Text Document and then save your file as ClearFindBox.reg. Then right-click on it and go to Edit and paste the lines below in there.

You'll want to be careful with the registry, maybe get someone who knows exactly what they are doing if you are not sure.

---------------------------------------------------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MapPoint\9.0\FindMRU] "FindBox"=hex(7):
----------------------------------------------------------------

[Note: If your registry is version 4 then you will need to replace the text "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00" with "REGEDIT4".]

Also, we have included the registry script file as a download.
