I would like to inuqire about the possibility of having the MapPoint software used for regions outside North America and Europe.
I am software marketing manager in Beirut, Lebanon and I visualize a high demand for this mapping software.
Is it possible to have MapPoint 2002 customised for businesses located in Beirut? If so, can our team do the customisation, ie embed the geographical data (streets, highways, parcs, retail stores, banks, hotels, etc..)to that software.
If not, our company can collaborate with private and public institutions here in Beirut to acquire the geographical data needed, and send them to you and to come up with
"MapPoint 2002 Lebanon".
I would appreciate your concern for sending me an informative reply or else refer me to the person in charge.
Thanks
Answer:
Unfortunately, the process of adding map data for new regions into the product is complex and proprietary. We have forwarded similar requests to Microsoft and the response we received was that Microsoft is evaluating additional coverage for a number of markets, but that they do not have imminent plans to add new regions to those already supported in MapPoint 2002. And Microsoft's intention is to develop map data in house rather than through partners on an opportunistic basis.
