I would Like to do a silent install and specify a specific location and type of install I want to do. What is the best way of going about this. I saw one on using VB but I don't have any programming skill.

Answer:

The standard way to roll MapPoint out to users over a network is covered in the “Deploy MapPoint over a network” topic in Help, including how to set up the admin install location and then how to advertise MapPoint on users’ desktops. After an admin advertises MapPoint on a user’s machine, clicking the MapPoint shortcut or opening a MapPoint file on that machine triggers a standard install. This means that the map data is stored at the admin install location, and the MapPoint program files are stored in the standard C:\Program Files\Microsoft MapPoint location on the user’s machine. The install process is “quiet” in that the user does not have to make choices about the install type and install location, but it is not “silent” because the user sees a dialog with a progress bar and has the option to cancel during install.

Administrators can use transforms in order to make advertised installs silent and to change the install type and location from the defaults. If you need to make these changes, contact us again for the appropriate properties and values in the data.msi that you will need to change using transforms.
