  MAPPOINT Q & A

Does MapPoint 2002 come with or can it come with demographic data. i.e. Home values, households, vehicles, businesses buy zip code? We are an Insurance company and this would be extremely useful to us. Also are there up-dates to MapPoint to keep its data current and does it function with Windows 2000?

Answer:

MapPoint 2002 includes a wealth of US demographic data - population, households, income, ages, ethnicity, education, housing units etc. by State, County, MSA, ZIP and Census Tract. The data is licensed from Claritas, and is mostly 1990 vintage. But for measures like population, MapPoint offers 1980, 1990, 2000 and projections for 2005.

MapPoint is usually updated once a year. This is when you get updated maps and other content. There is no interim update program for getting new demographics (although you can of course purchase your own updated data from companies like Claritas and visualize it in MapPoint through the Import/Link Data wizard.

Finally, MapPoint is fully certified for Windows 2000. It also runs on Windows 98/ME and the new Windows XP product.
