Is there a way to control the display of town names, streets and other elements so we can make a map less cluttered? I understand the limited choices of pre-formatted styles is designed for this function, but the options are very limited. I'd like to put in only a few town names, the very largest roads and the pushpins of sites I am locating...period. And I dont see how I can do that.

Answer:

You're not missing something. The pre-formatted styles are the only way to influence the map detail displayed. MapPoint has an automated labelling engine which will try to optimize the amount of detail on the map - as a user, you do not have control over this.
