I'm using MapPoint 2002. How can I adjust for the GPS data being sent in HR/MIN/SEC to allow MapPoint to accept the GPS lat-lon as decimal degrees? Second question: Will there be MapPoint for Argentina anytime soon?

Answer:

If your GPS device sends a standard NMEA 2.0 string directly to MapPoint using the GPS interface, MapPoint will understand it. If you are capturing GPS output in a database and are trying to bring it into MapPoint via the Import or Link Data features, you should convert the lat/lon data to decimal degree format before you pass it to MapPoint. Gilles Kohl contributed some good conversion code which can be found at http://www.mp2kmag.com/articles.asp?ArticleID=15.

With regards to your question about data coverage for Argentina, Microsoft has not made any comments or commitments that would suggest that this is in the works. It is likely that coverage outside North America and Europe will be added over time, but I think it is unlikely that Argentina will be added in the next 12 to 24 months.
