Is MapPoint appropriate?
I need a mapping system to intergrate with an in-house application, the following are the major feature I need:
1) Street level mapping of UK (inc Ireland).
2) Overlay the details of our operators on the map from our database.
3) Feed data back (ie operator code) to the in-house app.
4) Locate clients on the map by Postcode, town name, road name and numbers etc.
Also, is the map data regularly updated, or do you need to buy the new product each year?
Thanks for any info. you can provide - Should MapPoint not prove appropriate are there any other product available? (for a similar price)
Regards,
Sean
Answer:
1) Street level maps of the UK are in, Ireland isn't.
2) No problem.
3) Yes, automatable via the object model.
4) Yes.
The map data is updated roughly on a annual basis (at least that has been the norm).
With regards to alternatives to MapPoint, if more regular updates and/or Irish streets are a hard requirement, you'd probably have to move up to an ESRI or MapInfo GIS application and buy your own data from a data vendor of your choice. This adds expense and burden on you to get the right data.
