446 Jennifer Betz - October 22, 2001

Are the population projections on the new Mappoint 2002 based on the 2000 U.S. Census?

Answer:

No, these projections pre-date Census 2000. However, they aren't solely based on Census 1990 data either. Companies like Claritas conduct ongoing research and continually update their projections - and in some cases their projections will be more accurate than "actuals" from the Census because the Census data isn't checked and validated to the same extent as commercial data.

In other words, the 2000 and 2005 projections are pretty solid data to work with.
