I am attempting to use the data import function to show areas by zip code with different, but fixed, values. In other words, I want to display zip codes with a fixed value such as 1, 2, 3, etc. The program only allows for a single color with vaiable shades. Is there a way to select color and shades by data point?

Answer:

You cannot choose specific color values to use for a map, but you can specify a color scheme. Once your map has been created, right click on the legend title at left and choose "Format Legend...". In the "Range Type" combo choose "Equal data points (quantiles)". For "No. of ranges" choose 8, the maximum. Now, click the down arrow next to the first color. You will see the color schemes that are available to you. Most of them are shades of a single color, but some are not.

Since you are using fixed values to generate the display, you may have a problem with having adjacent zip codes all in the same color. You may need to play around with how you generate the data you map.
