I've tried using the data link wizard to connect to a SQL Server database with approximately 1 million customers. The process always seems to fail after it has started the actual link process. Is there a practical limit to the number of customer records Mappoint can work with?

Answer:

I don't know exactly where it is documented, but there is a limit of 10,000 pushpins that can be linked in any given pushpin set. But even if you could link that many points, trying to wade through a million pushpins would be somewhat impractical.

You may want to look at my articles here and here to get an idea of how you can use a COM add-in to display only the records from your database that are interesting at a given time, based on a query or the proximity to another location.
