611 P.Kasius - February 25, 2002

Presently we are working on a project in which we want to implement Mappoint 2002. FOr this project we need transport over land and over sea, all over the world. My questions: - is it possible in Mappoint to create your own ferrt routes, - will there be charts available in the near future for other continents like Africa, Australia. Thanks

Answer:

MapPoint includes at least some ferry routes. I made a route from Duluth, MN to Madeline Island, WI and the ferry trip is shown. It is not possible to add your own, if it is not already included.

Concerning expanded coverage for Africa and Austrailia (and Asia, for that matter), you would have to get in touch with Microsoft. I'm sure their decision to add additional areas would be based on the availability of data and their perception of whether there would be a large enough market for the product to cover the costs of production.
