Is there any way of importing map data into MapPoint? Or are users only to use the US and European map data that Microsoft decides.

You can import lines and polygons with the spatial data importer, but it won't be integrated with MapPoint as far as routing, territories, etc. like you might want. Check out MapPoint .NET, they are adding a lot of international data.
