I have MapPoint 2004
I need to do ethnic population comparisons between the 1990 and 2000 census - but MP2004 only has total population and total household data for 1990.
How do I get the rest of the 1990 census data? I have considered purchasing an old copy of MP2000 which has the 1990 data - but the data might not be readable by MP2004.
Any idea about how to get the 1990 data?
Thanks

Hello,
I am using MP2002 activeX with VBA, trying to automate data import (for Canada) and programmatically match all unmatched records. I use FindAddressResult method, but the FindResults.Name only contains Street address, City and Province. Is there any way I can find the Postal Codes of the closest matches (same way as the graphical user interface presents the list of closest postal cods for the matches?)

I need the customer name, zip, phone, etc. I am trying to quantify the mailing by selecting different geographic areas where we had the mailer sent out, so I can hand my salespeople a list of leads so they can follow up on the mailers. In using Optimization for a route, is there any way to have the software take into account that some stops are timed. For example: We have a circular route that repeats during the day. If we optimize, the software has the courier stopping at the same site in sequence, which is useless for us.
Is there any programming that can be done to setup those stops that are timed and optimize the ones where time is less important?

I have a comma separated list of multiple routes. Each line in the list is a point. Each route has a starting location and ending location, and some routes have one or more waypoints, with a sequence specified in the list. The points are already pre-ordered, like so:
route A,start,123 my rd,anytown,CA
route a,end,456 my rd,anytown,CA
route b,start,789 yr rd,anytown,CA
etc.
I am writing a VB app to take this data, map it, and draw straight lines connecting all points in each route. The result would be multiple unique, nonconnecting lines, one for each route.
Is there a way in Mappoint 2002 to either
1. create/display multiple routes or a collection or routes on a single map?
2. When importing the list, have it imported in the order it is provided? Using .importdata to create the dataset, and .queryallrecords to create the recordset, when I walk the recordset using .movefirst and .movenext, the recordset is not in the order that the comma delimited list is in.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

Hi EB
Can i use the Map point control features in my project. for e.g if you run
the Mappoint.exe, goto Tools. There are list of features which i want to
encorporate in my project. for e.g Location Sensor, Measure Distance etc.
does Mappoint has a method or property by which i can call these inbuilt
functions or do i have to write VB code for giving these features in my
project.
I am inserting the Map point control(OCX) on my form and now on click of the
buttons, i want those features which are already provided by Mappoint
control. so if i press "Measure Distance" button, it should give me the
distance between the 2 places in miles on my Map Control. This is my exact
requirement.

I am wondering if anyone has built a COM add-in application or has written VB code that will query two sets of data in MapPoint 2002 and determine whether the locations of dataset 1 (imported address info from excel) are within a given radius of dataset 2 (also imported address info from excel)
Would like to eventually create a form that accepts the following inputs:
DATASET 1: user may select a dataset already imported to the current MapPoint file
DATASET 2 same operation as dataset 1
RADIUS: the distance in miles from the data points within dataset 1 that will be used to find the data points within dataset 2.
OUTPUT FILENAME: allows the user to specify the filename of a new excel file where the results of the query will be stored.
I am guessing that the records from dataset 1 would have to be converted to lat/long in order to create the radius and capture the resulting pushpins from dataset 2?
Appreciate any response that might help me address and solve this problem

Jonathan Martin

When geocoding with MP2002 I have found when using Canadian Data, MP2002 does not seem to want to geocode to the address level and reverts to the postal code level. Even though the address was pointed to, the Geocoding engine seems to ignore the fact that address data at the street level is visable. However when re geocoding the data with the Postal code stripped out leaving street level information and city information MP2002 then proceeded to geocode to the city .
Does MP2002 possess the ability to geocode to the street address level in Canada and if how so does this work?
Also when looking for specific location the goeocoder misplaced the location and placed the address requested at the start node of the street.
I wonder whether this is the result on not being able to include address information in the product. If so the product is very easy to use and displays data at the postal code layer which is very similar to the desire to geocode to the Zip Code level in the US. MapPoint 2002 has lots of promise,it has taken the mystery away from GIS and put some very powerful analytic tools in the hands of neophytes. It can only get better, and with the application development tools available for third party application developers, it may become the product of choice for the masses. Microsoft works on volume. Prices reflect volume and introduce spatial data analysis to untold new users who otherwise would have never seen their data because of price restrictions of data and software.

I am a new user to MapPoint and I am very excited about the potential. I am developing territory maps for more than 100 sales executives. I see how link a state, zip code, or county to a sales executive, but I am not sure how to link a mulitple number of states to a sales executive. This would be similiar to developing regions across state lines.

I am a first time database developer working on an Access database. I have a list of 200,000 customer records that have Latitude and Longitude coordinates (formatted in decimals, like: 40.72323 = Latitude and -73.99569 = longitude). I know the coordinates of 700 points of sale and I know the closest point of sale and the "crow flies distance" to that closest point of sale. I would like to add to my table of customers the drive distance to the closest point of sale. Thus I have a table: [cust_ID], [CLOSEST_POS_ID], [customer_latitude], [customer_longitude], [closest_POS_latitude] and [closest_POS_longitude], [drive_distance]. I would like to be able to do an update query that would populate the [drive_distance] field with the actual drive distance. Thus far, in my fledgling developer career, I have not "connected" with another program (please be specific). Thanks for your help.

I am just beginning to create a map with different pushpin sets. Currently, I can only get Mappoint to display all of them simultaneously. I would like to be able to display only one or some of the pushpin sets at a time. Is there a way to do this? Do I need to build seperate maps for each set? If so, is there a way to merge these maps into one map. I am building the map from scratch, so there is no data import.
Thanks,

If I draw a closed shape around some pushpins, and if more than one type (ie dataset) of pushpin is within the closed shape, and then do Export to Excel, the resulting spreadsheet contains one worksheet per pushpin type. Is there any way to change that so that the Excel sheet is just a single list of pushpin data, instead of multiple lists?
In general, how can I control more of what the spreadsheet looks like?

If I have a dataset that is linked to a spreadsheet, is it possible to unlink it?
My reason - I would like to update a spreadsheet, then update my map using the links between the datasets and the spreadsheet. Then, I would like to move some pushpins from one dataset to another, based on what I see on the map. Right now, because the datasets are linked to external data, I cant move a pushpin from one dataset to another. So, one solution would be to update my map using all the links, then Unlink the datasets, leaving me free to move individual pushpins from one data set to another.

I just learned about the Schedule Stop feature, that allows me to enter stop duration for each stop.
Instead of entering duration one at a time for each stop, is there a way I can import stop durations as part of importing pushpin datasets from a MSExcel file?
I.e. I would have stop duration as a data field to be imported, then if I used that pushpin in a route, the stop duration for that pushpin/stop would already be ready?

As a newbie to both VB and Mappoint, I am gradually writing an application for my company. I have downloaded the utility to convert from OSGB co-ordinates to latitude / longitude, and it works fine. However, the "OSGB POS" window is displayed for every conversion I send to it from VB, which presumably slows things down as well as looking untidy! Is that right or have I installed it incorrectly? Or is there a way to disable the display of the box?
Many thanks, Stuart

Hi ,
I have gone through the MAPPoint technology recently. Its really a wonderful technology.
I have a question about implementing MAPPoint technology in our application.
I want to develop my own application using MAPPoint technology where
I will be integrating my own MAPS (one of the state in INDIA).
Can we do this? If not can you please let me know how can I achieve this feature.
If this option is not present in MAPPoint, can we expect MAPPoint future version contains this feature (Approx when can that be?)
waiting for a positive response.....

I need to be able to export push pin data that is in a custom territory I have created.
Just like I can by using the draw circle icon, make it a certain radius and then right-click and export to excel. Although this is nice I want to do the same thing in a custom territory because our sales territories are not perfectly round.
When I do export the custom territory to excel it does output the territory name and zip codes included but I also want the push pin info exported too.

Hi,
I'm looking for a software package that can give me a friendly interface to look-up addresses in a specific territory. There's a tight region of territory that I serve that cuts across zip codes covering 30 square miles. I'm wondering if Map Point has the ability for me to mark the territory on a map and then simply type in the address of a would-be customer to see if they're in my serving territory.
This kind of thing is similiar to mapquest where you input the address and they'll point to the location on the map. Only this time, the map has a specific territory shaded. I would think that pizza delivery companies would find this useful to new customers online.

Hi! I am looking for a way to find all zip codes within 10, 50 and 200 miles of a specific zip code. After I know how to do this for one, I would like to do it for all of the zip codes in the US and put them into an Access Database creating seperate tables for 10, 50 and 200 miles within a zip code. For example: The within 10 miles table will contain 2 columns, in one all of the US Zips and in the other Zips within 10 miles of the one in the first column, just like a relational db.
If you know how to do this please reply. I need this info as soon as possible.
Thanks,
Tim

Requirement:
We are looking for a software program that would allow us to enter 15000 locations, then by typing in one location (street+city+state or zip), pull up a list of all locations within, say, a 5, 10 or 20 mile radius. The user should be able to enter the location and the radius on web page and would see a map of the location with nearby locations marked on it and a list of the same nearby locations.
Solution:
I used Mappoint to achieve this using the following process:
- I created a map and imported 15,000 locations into 2 datasets (pushpin sets.2 setsare required as it cannot import more than 10000 in one set).
- I wrote a DLL that connects to the Mappoint software, calls the FIndAddressResults() method to find the user entered location.
- It then calls QueryCircle() method on eash dataset to find all locations falling in the user provided radius. It takes the resultsets, calculates each location's distance to the user entered location and sorts the list.
- It then calls Union() method and GOTO() methods to zoom to the area with the locations searched and saves the map as an HTML page.
- It then displays the list to the locations found nearby to the user with the map image extracted from the saved HTML page.
- This DLL gets called from the ASP page which provides the user interface to enter the location to search and the radius.
By doing so, I was able to get results. But when I did a stress testing by making multiple request simultaneously (made 10 requests for testing purpose) to the web page, it seemed to slow down to an unacceptable extend. I saw 3-4 MapPoint.exe processess running and taking 100% of the CPU. This made the whole web site so slow that it took a few minutes to serve a web page on a T1 connection. Also the resulting locations and maps came up for all the requests but it took an average time of 2-3 minutes for it to provide the location results. This made the solution unacceptable.
Questions:
My question is, Did I do this right?
Is there a better way of implemention the solution which would make it work faster and not take over 100% of cpu?
Is this product recommended for use in such web related scenario?
